IVY GOURD - AN EFFECTIVE "NATURAL INSULIN"

கோவக்காய்

With its showy flower and inviting red fruit, this tropical vine has been traditionally used to treat diabetes for years unknown, chemicals in ivy gourd appear to mimic insulin.

It acts like insulin by correcting the elevated enzymes Glucose-6-phospahtase, lactase dehydrogenase and controls hyperglycaemia in diabetics. Even the leaves are used to treat diabetic ulcers. Since it significantly reduces fasting and postprandial blood-glucose-levels, it may interacts with diabetes medication and leads to hypoglycaemia.

A juice made with the leaves and the fruit twice a day can reduce hyperglycaemia to a significant degree.
